Already at the first approach to the lively port of Livadi, full of characteristic bars, and the beautiful sandy beaches, Serifos leaves you speechless; lifting your gaze you can see the Chora: it stands precariously on a rocky spur overlooking Livadi. It is an archetypal ancient capital with whitewashed houses and chapels in its narrow alleys, a main square with a handful of taverns and cafes, colorful patches of bougainvillea and lots of steps! But it is worth climbing to the top where the breathtaking view opens up over Livadi and the Aegean up to Sifnos.

Livadi has all the attributes of the main port: shops, a bank, a good choice of tavernas, many with tables on the sand, and a number of beach bars and cafes. Buses take you to Chora and some beaches, but to visit the island it is advisable to rent a car or scooter.

Serifos boasts around 60 beaches, almost all sandy and many with natural shade. The main beach of Livadi extends for 850 meters. Livadakia, on the promontory, is stunning: a perfect crescent of golden sand flanked by tamarisk trees. Continuing along the south coast for 5 km you reach the splendid Vaya, a beach protected by dunes, and, continuing, the equally enchanting Ganema. Heading north-east from Livadi you arrive at Psili Ammos, already chosen by the Sunday Times as the European beach of the year.
